Is he still having the diarrhea or did they give him something for it, like metronidazole (flagyl) ? That stuff works wonders for diarrhea issues. It keeps their organs working and replaces their lost electrolytes. Sometimes just offering life sustaining care like fluids can really perk them up and helps their body flush things out. But you got him to the vet and since he was vaccinated he has a much, much better chance! Keep us updated!!! Also the IV should make him feel much better. It’s something like 90-91% fatal in untreated dogs. Parvo does happen very quickly and it is extremely dangerous to dogs, often it does end with them dying because the owner doesn’t know what it is or how serious it is. My corgi was the same way about 10 years ago before I knew what puppy mills were. Unfortunately a lot of dogs come from mills with illness. If they have no contract or refuse help, you have encountered a puppy mill. Have you contacted the breeder? Any good breeder will assist you with the vet bill or refund some of the purchase price or take the dog back to work with their vet. I am almost glad we had MRSA twelve years ago because we are well trained at following strict washing protocols. I offer water and food whenever he opens his eyes so he should be reasonably hydrated (along with the Ringer’s bolus). Between IV poke, some medication added to his IV that stung, two more needle sticks for the anti-emetic, and two sticks to successfully draw blood for the CBC I’m sure he feels very sore and stressed. I was give the Scienec Diet gastro (wet) food which I was instructed to offer in small spoonfuls, but he hasn’t touched it yet. He is drinking, though he hasn’t eaten since yesterday. The vet believes that since he technically received three doses of vaccine that he should have a more mild case. It stank of parvo according to the vet, too. He didn’t appear to have blood in his stool, but he did have what appeared to be sloughed off bits of intestinal lining. He has gone on the sidewalk a couple of times and we do live in a dog-friendly neighborhood, but that seem so quick to me. He’s only really been in our yard and we have no other pets except a hedgehog and hamster. He was vaccinated twice for parvo prior to coming to us and received a third dose during his initial vet visit Friday. She thinks the Sentinel may have just been the straw that broke the camel’s back. I still don’t entirely understand how he was so spry and spunky prior to the Sentinel dosing Sunday afternoon, but have been told that parvo works very quickly. That said, he was on a transport with other dogs so it’s likely he picked it up there. We just got him Thursday morning and haven’t brought him anywhere. Like toxic medication overload needing a veterinarian sick. I grew up in Florida and yes, the fleas are fking horrible, I mean absolutely atrocious- but never had any that were not taken care of with Frontline.Īlso FYI never ever use a flea dip or flea shampoo on a dog and then treat with a medication (or in reverse either) always wait 48+ hours afterwards to give the medication or longer if possible as stacking the two will make your dog sick. I stuck with Frontline as I prefer it and I also have two cats and you have to keep the cats away from the dog while the product is wet on the dog for like 8-12 hours, it can make the cats sick. My vet tried to get me to use Sentinel too. I personally prefer using separate medications for specific things so I can watch for side effects and know exactly what caused it. A lot of vets are pushing Sentinel because it does internal parasites as well. From my experience, these side effects can get worse with each use. The Sentinel box itself states that in a small percentage of dogs digestive, neurologic, and skin side effects can occur. He may have issues with Sentinel but not with Frontline or Nexgard. Some dogs do have sensitivity to flea preventatives but often time just changing the medication type can fix the issue. There are almost always more side effects with an oral tablet over a topical one and if you are concerned, you should contact your vet.
